Difficult weekend
Result Race 1
Result Race 2

070422Well, we come away from Donington a bit disappointed.  Based on my performance at the season opener at Oulton Park and last year’s race here, I expected to leave Donington this weekend with podium finishes.  Unfortunately, that isn’t the case and I have to be happy with a seventh and fourth place.

Qualifying for race one didn’t go particularly well, we just seemed too slow and the best we could manage was seventh place.  During the race I managed to maintain that position, but I didn’t really have the pace at this circuit to challenge the cars in front of me.   I had an interesting battle with Kennard, I tried to pass him after a safety car period, getting close to him at the restart, but as soon as he shut the door going into a fast corner, I lost all downforce and [Esteban] Guerrieri was able to get past me.

We seemed much more on the pace for the second qualifying session on Saturday afternoon, and I thought I might have secured my second pole of the season.  However, by the end of the session I had set only the third fastest time, but it was still a good starting position for race two.

I had a great start in race two, and was lying in second place when my team mate Valerio braked late and tried to pass me.  I managed to regain track position, but the second time he tried the manoeuvre, he spun in front of me.  I had to take evading action so as not to hit him, and as I did, several cars found their way past and I lost a number of places.  After that, it was quite a calm race, but I’m disappointed we didn’t manage to come away with a podium finish.

We seemed to struggle a bit with the smooth surface at this track, I don’t think we got the most out of the tyres, and this is something we will be looking at in the run up to the next race.  I’m looking forward to testing and working on the issues we had here and challenging for the race wins in Romania.
