After a huge four week break - we're finally going racing again - this time to Romania. Not only will this be a first for me, it will be a first for the entire F3 paddock. The street race around the city of Bucharest is the first F3 race in Romania and also the furthest the British F3 paddock has ever travelled for a race.
Since the last race at Donington I've been busy training and testing. We also had a promotional event at Mercedes-Benz World in the UK last weekend, where my team mates and I had the opportunity to test some Mercedes-Benz road cars around dry and wet handling circuits, which was a great experience. Some unfortunate journalists also had the chance to be driven around by us on the wet skid circle - I hope they enjoyed it too!
We've also had two tests recently; one at Pembrey and one at Snetterton, both of which went well and gave us useful feedback. I feel we have a better understanding of how to get the best out of the tyres now as well, so I'm feeling confident ahead of the weekend.
It's awesome that the championship is going to Romania the track looks really interesting. From the circuit maps we've seen, the track looks quite fast, there are a number of quite long straights and a couple of chicanes.
I really like street circuits and seem to do fairly well, I had a good race at Pau last year, so I'm hoping this circuit will be similar. I don't really have any expectations ahead of this race. We have aims, and we always aim to win, but with no experience of the circuit and a very competitive field, it is hard to have expectations as such.
There will be a much more level playing field in Bucharest as the track will be new to everyone. I think the drivers who learn and adapt to the circuit quickly will do well. It will be a real challenge for the teams to find a good set up and improve quickly. I'm very confident in my team and engineer and know that they will manage to find the right balance for the car. Qualifying for race one will take place on Friday, so it will be important to be competitive quickly.
