Result Race 2

After what seemed to be a dream start, my weekend went down hill at Spa!  I really like the circuit, it's a great track and suits my driving style.  I was quickest in both free practice sessions and set a time quick enough to get second in first qualifying, without a tow.  I qualified second for race two as well, and the scene seemed set for a good weekend of podiums and possibly race wins.

Of course, as is always the case in motorsport, nothing can be taken forgranted.  I knew I had a problem in race one as soon as I left the line, and was forced to retire on lap two with a gearbox failure.

After two days of dry running, the heavens finally opened on Saturday, making conditions difficult for race two.  What made matters worse was that the race organisers decided to start the race behind the safety car.  I appreciate that they have the safety of the drivers in mind, but I'm not sure the conditions warranted a safety car and of course it took away any chance of taking the lead away from the line.

When racing did finally commence, Kennard was pushing hard and I knew if I stayed close to him there was a big chance he would make a mistake.  Sure enough coming out of the Bus Stop he ran wide and had a bad entry into the next corner.  I tried to get up the inside of him going into La Source but couldn't quite make it stick.

It was overall a disappointing event.  We'd been very, very quick throughout the weekend.  What happened in race one was just a massive disappointment and frustrating for the whole team.  I'm absolutely sure we could have won that race.  Sam did a great job to win but we certainly had the upper hand over him in qualifying and practice.  Considering where Marko, the championship leader started it was a lost opportunity.

It was good to get on the podium and get some points in race two, but it wasn't really a race.  I'm disappointed that the organisers decided yet again to start the race behind the safety car.  The organisers kept the safety car out for a lap when the track was clear, which was another lost opportunity.  I can't imagine it was a very interesting race for the fans or for TV.

It's disappointing not to get a win after being so quick all weekend, it's not quite the result I would have expected.  But we recorded another podium finish and we have to be happy with that.   Next we head to Zolder for the F3 Masters, a great event where all the European F3 championships come together.  I'm sure it will be very competitive, but I'm looking forward to racing against a new field of drivers.
