With only four races left, the 2007 British
F3 season is drawing to a close now.
After 18 rounds, Marko Asmer leads the championship, and I am the only
driver - out of 21 in the championship class - now capable of stopping him taking
the 2007 title this weekend at the Croft circuit in the north of England.
The last race at Thruxton went well. Despite a bit of a difficult time in first
qualifying, we made up for it with a great race pace in the first race. I had a great drive to third place from 15th
on the grid and followed that up with a fourth place in race two.
Since Thruxton, we have completed an
official test at the Rockingham circuit in Northamptonshire. Rockingham will host the final event of the
season, so it was encouraging that we had a good test there last week.
I have never raced at Croft before. We've completed a few tests there, but as
Croft was missing from the 2006 F3 calendar, I haven't driven there
competitively. I doubt that should be
too much of a problem as we have completed a significant number of miles in
testing.
My team mates Niall Breen and Sam Bird have
both won a number of races at Croft and their feedback and support will no
doubt be helpful this weekend; that's the benefit of running in a team like
Carlin, as team mates we always try and help each other.
With a strong performance in qualifying, we
should be capable of challenging for race wins.
Mathematically the championship is not over yet, and I am determined to
put on a good show for the fans at Croft this weekend. As the season comes to a close, it would be
nice to get back on the top step of the podium.
That will be our aim, as always.
