It's always great to come back to Mugello, the circuit
is unbelievable, the weather couldn't have been better, and the Italian flair
is in the air.
For the tyre it's probably the toughest track of the
season, combined with the heat, preserving the tyres is one of the decisive
factors. For me it was a special experience to drive 173 km in the north
Italian heat - specially in a closed touring car. But that's exactly what made
the weekend so enjoyable.
During the three days in Mugello we steadily improved:
On Friday and Saturday, we worked hard on fine tuning the setup of the car. The
result of our work was seen in Qualifying, we made it to the second segment of
Qualifying for the first time. I Qualified in 14th place just next to
my famous team mate Ralf Schumacher in 13th.
In Mugello the start is always very turbulent,
mistakes are immediately punished. For me the start and the first lap went
really well, I managed to pass five colleagues and was lying in 9th
place. The 33 laps of racing were great fun and I really enjoyed this race. I
stayed clear of all troubles and concentrated on my race only. Finishing as the
top 2007 Mercedes C-Class was great for me and all the guys form my team Mücke
Motorsport as they really did a fantastic job this weekend. It's definitely
nice that we were able to qualify and finish the race ahead of Gary Paffett,
who is clearly our reference point as he is in the same car as me and is a
former DTM champion.
There isn't much time to relax, as the next race is
only 10 days away at the Euro Speedway. The track near Berlin is very demanding
and will require everything from us drivers once again. Following the change of
the layout the track has a very nice flow to it, hopefully we can build on our
last race.
Keep
Racing!
