Anyone who followed my race in Valencia, will agree with me: We didn't have the fortune that every racer needs for success. After satisfactory testing and a similarly promising session on friday my crew of Mücke Motorsport and I were confident for the qualifying.
A place in the Top 10 was the target with my GQ AMG Mercedes C-Class. The first laps with the first set of tires then felt good, too. But then the disappointment: The second set just didn’t work. I was sliding more than I was driving.
For the race we therefore had to live with a poor starting position, P15. But then with the start our luck seemed to change. I managed to improve my position by four places in the first five corners. Then, while turning into turn six I felt a push. My brand-mate Jamie Green had hit me. The spin was inevitable. The race was over for me before it had even begun.
For us it was now only about damage limitation. With an aggressive pit strategy, we wanted to try and recover lost ground. This tactic worked thanks to the excellent performance of my Mücke team during the pit stops.
At the end there was indeed no points, but with P11 under these circumstances, a respectable result. After Jamie had apologized for the incident in the first lap, the issue was buried. We are leaving Valencia with great confidence that the Lausitzring will bring us fortune, luck and a great result!
Keep racing!
