It was one of those weekends where we were left thinking what could have been. In a fully wet qualifying session, we managed to get a solid 6th grid position for the race. Actually quite a good result, but I was a little disappointed as I felt we really had the pace to get into the top 4 shoot out. We missed it by only 25 thousandth of a second.
For the race itself we felt well prepared after a strong longrun in the Warm Up session. I started well and got good traction, managed to get on the inside of Mortara, he first moved left and so the way was clear for me, then however he swerved back to the right and squeezed me more and more to the right. At this time I was already fully on the brakes and turning as far to the right as possible to avoid the collision, but he just kept turning right until there was finally contact and he spun.
This situation lost me 3 Places and on lap 8 I received a drive through penalty for the incident. I really don’t agree with this penalty as I tried everything in my hand to avoid the collision. After serving my penalty I dropped to last position with quite a gap. From now on all we could do is show what might have been possible, as we were running very fast and consistently.
In the remaining race we managed to close the gap and make up some places and finish in 14th place. I just feel sorry for the team as they did a good job this weekend and I wanted to reward them with the result we deserved. Luckily we don’t have to wait very long for our next opportunity as the next round at the Lausitzring is just around the corner.
