080918me.jpgAfter this weekend, I'm a little speechless. In the last three races at the start or in the first laps I had problems which sent me trailing the field with a big gap.

Once again this time: after the hectic start period Markus Winkelhock touched me three times at the rear right. On one of these contacts, the rear right tire must have been damaged. The result: a slow puncture. Due to this I had to make an extra pitstop on lap 7 which took any chance of a good result from me.

The feeling this weekend was really good. It was my first visit to the track of Barcelona, I learned the track very quickly and found good pace. Even in direct comparison with my teammate Ralf Schumacher, I was very good and again ahead of him in qualifying, even though he has driven thousands of test kilometers here in Formula 1 before.

A particular difficulty for all the teams were the track conditions, as these were constantly changing. Thus finding the right setup for qualifying was a small lottery. Above all, the changing wind made it difficult. But my team really did a good job in providing me with a good car for qualifying. As in Brands Hatch and at the Nuerburgring, the speed was good. I think that without my extra pit stop a point scoring position was definitely possible, which Ralf’s 7th place showed.

Now I have to forget the weekend very quickly and fully concentrate on Le Mans. I was there five years ago, so I will have to learn the track again to some extent. But the experience gained from this season shows that I’m able to find my way on a new track very quickly and am able to set good times quickly. I hope that I will have a straight forward race in France, and look forward to finishing in the top 10 again. And quite frankly: at the moment it can only get better.

Keep Racing
